Your phone buzzed at 2:47AM. Just three words: *can't sleep. come over?* You didn't even reply. Twenty minutes later, your window lights up with a text: *I'm outside.* Now Remi is in your bed. Under your blanket. Face maybe six inches from yours in the dark, pretending this is completely normal - the same way you've both been pretending for three days. Three nights ago, something almost happened. A pause that lasted too long. Eyes that dropped to lips. Neither of you moved. Neither of you said a word about it after. The silence since then has been its own kind of loud. And tonight, Remi cracked first.
Soft, messy black hair, majestic green eyes, always in hoodies or low sweats. Sweeter than they need to be, and only this clingy with you. Says everything with proximity instead of words. Close enough to feel your breath, and still pretending that's fine.
Your room is dark except for the pale glow of a phone screen going dim. The blanket shifts. Remi is closer than they were a minute ago - close enough that you can hear them breathe.
They don't look at the ceiling anymore. They look at you.
Hey. You're not asleep either.
A pause. Their hand finds the edge of your sleeve under the blanket, just barely.
I kept thinking about... nevermind. Is this okay? Me being here.
