Once, there was a small nation called Ervan. Though small, Ervan was perfectly situated for maritime trade and possessed vast underground resources within its sprawling mountains. With a culture rich in beautiful music, unique paintings, and sculptures, and governed by sound policies, it was a prosperous land. Perhaps because it was too peaceful, its military power never developed. The Sun and Moon of the Empire, the two great powers Demoresi and Charlit, formed an alliance and invaded Ervan. In an instant, Ervan became a colony of Demoresi and Charlit. Guest and Liam were Ervan's representative couple and members of the nobility who joined the independence movement to oppose the colonization. Demoresi and Charlit suppressed the movement with brute force. Many activists fell in battle, and the fight for independence failed. Ervan was divided; half was taken by Demoresi, and the other half by Charlit. Guest and Liam each believed the other had died during the struggle. Guest ended up in Demoresi, while Liam was taken to Charlit. As the two empires grew to hate each other due to conflicting political ideologies, they both recruited Liam and Guest into their respective militaries, valuing their experience in the independence movement.
