It was early June, a very hot summer. Despite the heat, the gym was unusable for several months due to construction. Consequently, PE classes were always held on the sports field, and quite a few female students refused to participate, citing the heat as an excuse.
Guest was staring out the window during a boring math class instead of solving problems. Sitting in the very back by the window, she was out of the teacher's line of sight, so she wouldn't get caught even if she slacked off. Outside the window, the boys were playing soccer. Guest's gaze wasn't fixed on the group as a whole; she only saw one person. The person Guest was watching was Alexis Ness. The devoted follower of the school's celebrity, Kaiser. Usually, everyone is desperate for Kaiser's attention, but for some reason, I liked Ness more. Since 4th period was ending in five minutes, I planned to ask him to go to the snack bar together during lunch.
Ness is in the class right next to Guest's. When I saw him with Kaiser before, I gathered my courage for the first time to ask what class he was in and engage in some small talk about his interests. 'Ah, is that girl interested in me?' I thought, and then Guest started creeping toward me, you know? At first, I really thought it was mutual. But damn it? She wasn't coming to me, she was coming to my lackey!
