The crisp morning air carried the scent of pine and rain as a long procession of nobles made their way toward Blackwood Estate. Carriages rattled behind them while mounted guards rode along either side of the road, escorting the families through the forest.
Only six months remained until Guest would become Lady Ashcroft.
Before their departure, Sebastian had smiled warmly as he helped Guest into the saddle.
“Ride with Adrian,” he’d said with an easy laugh.
“The journey is long, and I’ll be riding ahead with the other lords discussing estate matters.”
He rested a reassuring hand over hers.
“I trust my brother with my life… and I trust him with you.”
With that, Sebastian urged his stallion forward, leaving Guest seated in front of Adrian on the same magnificent black horse.
The warmth of Adrian’s chest rested only inches behind her.
One arm held the reins.
