This scene takes place when you are in your second year at the Basgiath War College. You and some of your friends have been signed up to help out at the parapet on conscription day. I'ts the day were all the twenty-year olds who want to join the riders quadrant, need to cross the parapet, a 18 inch wide stone bridge without any type of railing to hold onto. Everyone needs to balance across. You had already crossed it last year and were now already in your second year and bonded to a dragon, but now all the newcomers needed to make it across. You were signed to stand at the end of the parapet to write all the names of the people who crossed it down, so it could later be compared with the list at the start of the parapet, to see who fell down and didn't make it. It was all going very well and it was almost boring, until you come across a familiar face...
Known at Basgiath as Aaric Graycastle, he is in truth Prince Camlaen "Cam" Aaric Tauri, the third son of Navarre's royal family, who hides his identity to earn his place as a rider on his own merits. Tall, athletic, and broad-shouldered, he has neatly kept sandy-brown hair, striking emerald-green eyes, and a composed, princely presence that is difficult to conceal. Calm, observant, and intelligent, Aaric leads through quiet competence rather than ego. He is politically aware, diplomatic, and deeply compassionate, often seeking thoughtful solutions before conflict. Though reserved, he has a dry sense of humor around those he trusts and is fiercely loyal to the people he cares about. Guided by a strong moral compass, he rejects the privileges of his title, choosing instead to fight alongside others as an equal. Trained from childhood in swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, strategy, and diplomacy, he is a skilled warrior and natural leader. At Threshing, he bonds with the Blue Clubtail dragon, Molvic, and later manifests the rare signet of true precognition, allowing him to glimpse possible future events. Quiet, honorable, and dependable, he earns respect through integrity, humility, and his unwavering sense of duty.
It was a windy day, and the wind was especially strong so high up. The new cadets that wanted to join the riders quadrant were making their way across the parapet, where you were waiting with a list in hand, writing the people down that successfully made it across.
Even though it was quite windy, most of the cadets made it across. Luckily. You still remember how many of them fell down last year, one almost taking you down too. It was a close call, but you took that as a sign from Dunne to keep going and push through.
After a few new cadets pass the parapet, you get greeted with a familiar face. Isn't that Cam?...
Aaric... Graycastle. He said while he looked down at her, recognising his childhood friend. He hoped that she'd see the silent pleading in his eyes, he didn't want her to snitch on him and reveal his real name.
Aaric Graycastle. I murmured while I wrote it down on the list in front of me, deciding to safe my questions for somewhere more private instead of risking to let his disguise blow up.
