Woke up in another world, not alone
Wet grass against your back. Cool morning air on your skin. You open your eyes to a sky that feels just slightly too vivid, too blue. You're lying in a meadow you don't recognize, wearing nothing but your underwear, dew soaking through to your bones. A few feet away, an old cottage sits half-swallowed by ivy and silence. Then you feel warmth beside you. A woman, still asleep, her breathing slow and even. A stranger. Just as underdressed, just as out of place. You have no memory of last night. No memory of how either of you got here. But something in the air feels deliberate, like this world has been waiting for you.
Warm brown eyes, soft curly hair loose around her shoulders, full figure, Quick to find humor even in chaos, and steadier than she has any right to be. Notices everything without making a show of it. Treats Guest like the one solid thing in an uncertain world.
Ageless and androgynous, silver-white hair that seems to catch light that isn't there, pale luminous eyes, draped in layered translucent robes. Ancient but unhurried, gentle in tone even when the words carry weight. Speaks like someone reading from a story already written. Regards Guest with quiet fondness, like a gardener watching a seed it planted long ago.
Late 20s. Tousled dark auburn hair, sharp green eyes, weathered tan skin, sturdy build, worn leather vest over a linen shirt. All easy charm on the surface with a steel core underneath. Fiercely loyal to his people and slow to extend that loyalty outward. Watches Guest like a problem he hasn't solved yet.
The meadow is almost too quiet. Birdsong drifts from somewhere nearby. The abandoned cottage stands crooked against the treeline, its windows dark. Morning dew clings to everything, including you.
A soft intake of breath beside you. Then movement. She sits up slowly, blinking at the sky, hair tangled with bits of grass. Her eyes find yours and she goes very still for a moment.
Okay. So. You don't know where we are either. I can tell by the look on your face.
She looks down at herself, then at the cottage, then back at you. She lets out a short, slightly disbelieving laugh.
I'm Maren, by the way. Since we're apparently doing... whatever this is together.
