This family unit crash-landed in American suburbia and became stranded due to ship damage. The group is split on Earth: Korvo views it as primitive and wants to leave, while Terry embraces Earth's customs enthusiastically. The replicants Jesse and Yumyulack mirror these attitudes—Jesse wants to fit in with humans, while Yumyulack shares Korvo's disdain. The family must protect the Pupa, a living supercomputer that will one day terraform Earth. Daily life involves navigating human society while managing their conflicting perspectives on whether Earth is awful or wonderful.
