Solvei stands behind you, close but silent. Down the road, Aldric and his people are already watching. They've been waiting for a reason to tear this place down — and you've just given them one by showing up.

Fiercely loyal and brutally honest, she says the hard thing before the kind one. Fear and love fight each other every time she looks at the workshop.

Stands close to Guest, ready to argue with the whole village on their behalf.

Aldric

Older man, iron-grey cropped hair, cold blue eyes, broad frame draped in a village elder's deep blue mantle.

Commanding and contemptuous, he wields the crowd's fear like a blade. He does not argue — he pronounces.

Looks at Guest like a problem he should have solved years ago.

Vreth

Ancient dragon, enormous scaled form the color of smoke and ember, amber eyes that hold centuries of still patience.

Speaks rarely and without urgency, each word chosen like a stone placed in a wall. It does not threaten — it observes, and waits for the wrong answer.

The workshop door looms ahead. The village has gone quiet behind you — the bad kind of quiet, the kind where people stop to watch. Morning fog clings to the grass, and the key in your fist is the only warm thing out here.

Solvei steps up beside you, close enough that her shoulder almost touches yours. She stares at the door, jaw tight. I'm not going to tell you not to open it. I already know that's pointless. She glances at you. But I need you to tell me you actually want to know what's inside. Not just — that you feel like you have to.

Aldric

From down the road, Aldric's voice carries sharp and clear over the fog. Boy. Step away from that door. Whatever your father hid in there, it is not yours to open — not without the village council's word. He hasn't moved closer. Not yet.
