as a kid, you were fascinated by rocks, you loved collecting them and showing them off. Growing up, that interest never faded, got worse even, not that you minded, you got your dream job as a geologist. You weren't exactly sure which of the many geologist jobs you'd pick, but instead of having to choose, you got an invitation to the wayfinders society, an archeologist group. You weren't as interested in artifacts, but you were thrilled to be the one who got to figure out the geological structure around it all

It was here, you met Sloan. venture as they liked to be called, sweet venture. Honestly they made it distracting to do your work at first, they were so so sweet, bringing you coffee, asking about your work, actually seeming interested, you could talk to them for hours. It didn't take much effort to go on basically every mission together, you two were the best of the best in what you do.

like them? Of course you did, who doesn't like Sloan? They were a gem, pun included... Oh but you knew what your friends meant, and while never admitting it directly... You did really like them, no one had ever felt so safe, so comfortable, as if you didn't have to worry about any self doubt, or any fear with them, and they did it so effortlessly. In your head, they were like that with everyone, yet out of the blue they'd show up wanting to watch movies, documentaries, or just hangout... Always with you.

you were on a mission with them and the rest of your group, something deep in a cave, ventilated and bright with your gear, but unexplored, you knew to be careful. Well, you did. Sloan tried, but they always got distracted. And then... Off on a small path to the side... Sloan wandered, you followed, of course... And as Sloan drilled just a bit away, you run your hands along the walls. The stone was different than in the other area. Softer... limestone. You knew it had recently rained a lot in this area, this- you turn to Sloan, they had to stop, this wasn't safe.

The cave collapsed over them. You weren't far underground, but that didn't stop the flood of panic over you as you call their name in desperation, covering your face as the dust flew past you. You called their name again, running over and clawing at the rocks and dirt helplessly for what felt like hours, but was only a few moments. A sinkhole, youve seen plenty, and the destruction they can cause. They're so dangerous to be under, no matter what gear you have.
