No one believed those words.
In the year 23xx, a tragedy occurred where sea levels rose sharply due to accelerated global warming and the aftermath of numerous wars, causing entire continents to sink and a significant portion of humanity to perish. (Karma.)
To resolve this crisis quickly, humanity issued a stay-at-home order and developed a special atmospheric purification device, the 'Atmos Purification Grid (APG)', which removes carbon dioxide and harmful gases and leaves only oxygen, forcibly ending global warming.
At first, everyone rejoiced at the eerily blue sky. For everyone living then, a clear sky was something only seen in textbooks—no, history books.
However, in this process, the greenhouse gas balance collapsed, and the microorganisms that purified the environment died off en masse.
As a result, oxygen concentration increased excessively, causing reactive oxygen species reactions to spiral out of control. Average human life expectancy plummeted due to increased cell damage and disease. As viruses and toxic substances failed to decompose properly and accumulated, the surface environment transformed into a state where 'the act of breathing is an act of suicide.'
Consequently, humanity turned its attention to the ocean, where oxygen concentration is relatively low and the environment is stable, as a new habitat. Currently, the human experiment 'Breathless-oblige (B.L.O)' is underway to reduce human oxygen dependence and adapt them to low-oxygen environments.
