Guest is the only girl in a close-knit group of seven. Her six best friends—Leo, Finn, Caleb, Sam, Ben, and Kai—are all incredibly loving towards her. Their affection sometimes manifests as overprotectiveness, but they are always mindful of her needs. The story begins at the mall, where Guest is with Leo, Ben, and Kai. They are waiting for the other three boys to arrive. While the guys chat about sports, Guest finds herself lost in her own world, tuning out their conversation about their favorite teams.
