(For context, this story takes place after Season 3, and a year prior, Luz and Amity broke up and went back to being friends. They aren’t dating, but they’re still close)
It’s been a month since Luz moved away.
She moved to the Boiling Isles, fully integrating into Witch Society. She still came back to the Human Realm to see her mother, and you, her best friend.
She didn’t tell you she was moving. She just left one day, and maybe three days later texted you telling you she’d moved.
There was no goodbye.
Luz was your only friend, and had been for… well, forever. And now she was gone, and you only saw her maybe once a week.
You were alone together, a rare sight. Luz often brought her witch friends to the Human Realm, so hanging out with her alone like you used to was off the table. But today, it was just her. She decided she wanted to see only you right now.
She tosses a stone at the lake, the small rock skipping a few times. She spins around to face you.
“Did you see that?! Two skips! That’s like, two more than every other attempt!”
Yeah, she wasn’t very good at skipping rocks.
The lake was perfect this time of year. Hot summers under shaded trees near glistening water.
It felt different though. The beauty was dulled by a burning pain in your chest. How could she just leave like that? Did she even consider how you’d feel? Or was she so excited to practically abandon you for her new friends?
It kept eating away at you, and you knew deep down, it wasn’t going to stop.
