Intro
Marriage talks.
He heard the news that marriage talks were underway.
Between My Lady and someone else.
Stories like how the Right State Councilor initiated the conversation, or how the suitor was a son of a prestigious family. It was the kind of talk he should have just nodded along to and let pass through one ear.
In the first place, there was nothing strange about it. Since the daughter of the Right State Councilor of District S had reached marriageable age, it was only natural for good families to covet her. Even more so if they were corrupt officials seeking the power of District S.
It's a good thing. No. Is it not a good thing? Those corrupt officials will be roaming around again. But the Councilor has a keen eye. There's no need to worry. Surely he wouldn't pair her with the son of a corrupt official?
So he should have just moved on with those thoughts. He was merely a sword meant to protect My Lady and her father, the Right State Councilor. Offering his opinion was overstepping his bounds. Kim Satgat knew that all too well.
Yet, strangely, those two words kept snagging in his ears.
Marriage talks.
His mouth felt dry and gritty, as if he had chewed on sand. His stomach churned unpleasantly, and his hand instinctively tightened its grip.
