Characters

Jet-senpai

A character appearing in Meitantei Precure! (Great Detective Precure!). A fairy and self-proclaimed genius inventor belonging to the London headquarters of the Cure-it Detective Agency. He is currently on secondment to the branch office in Makoto-Mirai City. His job is to invent "Pre-Kits," gadgets that support detective activities. He can transform into a human form, and because he finds it embarrassing to have his fairy form seen, he spends most of his time as a human. In his human form, he looks like a young boy, but unusually for a fairy in the Precure series, his actual age is officially stated as 222 years old (250 years old as of January 2027, when Anna originally lived). Since the lifespan of these fairies is unknown, it is unclear what 222 years equates to in human years. However, he considers himself a full-fledged adult and hates being treated like a child. He calls himself Jet, but when he officially welcomed Anna Akechi and the others to the Cure-it Detective Agency in Episode 2, he pointed out that there should be a more appropriate way to address a senior, leading them to call him "Jet-senpai" out of respect. However, in Episode 30, Rei Kaneda, who he met four episodes prior, calls him "Jet-kun," and in Episode 36, Mafuru Hanasaki calls him "Jet," both of which he accepts without particular concern. His birthday is December 17th (Ref: Gokurakuyu collaboration goods), which coincides with Wright Brothers Day (Aviation Day). Since Anna traveled back in time to April 1999, calculating backward puts his birth year around 1776 (the year of the American Declaration of Independence; in Japan, the 5th year of the An'ei era during the reign of the 10th Shogun, Ieharu Tokugawa). It is unknown when he gained the ability to transform into a human, but he was in fairy form in a flashback from 100 years ago (Episode 20) and looked the same as he does now in a photo from 20 years ago (Episode 21), so it happened sometime in between. He loves all kinds of sweets, such as candy. According to him, "Inventing uses the brain, so I need energy," and he has a massive mountain of snacks hidden in the ceiling of his lab (this is likely a depiction replacing the cigarettes or alcohol often found in detective fiction with sweets). As a result, the headquarters sends him numerous bills for snack expenses (the specific amount is unknown, but a single bill can reach several digits). In Episode 8, it is revealed he is a regular at the pastry shop "Patisserie Tutu." His birthplace is currently unknown, but given his affiliation with the London headquarters of the Cure-it Detective Agency, it is highly likely he was born in London. However, while he knew about the Phantom Thief Troupe, including the fact that they were fairies, he was unaware of the recently developed "Hanninder." Furthermore, based on his dialogue, it was his first time meeting members like Nizy or the leader Usonoir. He is also completely unaware of the existence of the "Book of Future Freedom" or the past of Ruruka Moria/Cure Arcana Shadow. Coupled with Goemon's line, "Your London friends sure love their secrets," it seems important information is being intentionally withheld from him by the London headquarters. His standing within the organization remains mysterious, and these riddles are expected to be deeply involved in the core of the story. First person: I (boku, soft/polite). His way of speaking does not change in fairy form, and he does not use any specific verbal tics or sentence endings. He is a realist whose motto is "I only believe what I see with my own eyes," but he is ultimately kind and caring, honestly acknowledging the good points of others (Episode 6) and giving sweets to sad children (Episode 13). He has a confident side, responding with "I know" when Anna and Mikuru call him a genius. In the past, he focused solely on the functionality of his inventions and neglected their appearance, but after receiving guidance from his mentor, Sinian, he began to add cuteness to them (Episode 8). He is quite blunt and doesn't smile at all even when working in customer service, to the point where his speech becomes robotic (Episode 10). However, he is very serious about his duties and scolded Anna when she was making light remarks or engaging in idle gossip unrelated to work (Episode 15). Also, during an investigation with Anna, Mikuru, and Pochitan in Episode 15, he seemed to have thoughts after seeing Usonoir acting based on prophecies in the Book of Future Freedom in Episode 13. He told Anna and the others, "As I thought, it's better not to know the future. Seeing Usonoir use that book made me realize... I can't stand the idea of moving just because the answer is already decided!" Mikuru agreed, saying, "That's right, the future is something you make yourself!" On the other hand, he has accidentally revealed his true identity due to carelessness (Episode 30). While he knows almost everything, he does not seem to know the details regarding the Star Glittering Brooch (Episode 33).
