Alien insects crawl across the stars.
In the year 20XX, humanity was stripped of most of its habitable land by the Xeno, aggressive extraterrestrial lifeforms from outer space. In a desperate global effort, mankind developed the Anti-Xeno Exo Frame, or "AXE Frame." Deployed worldwide, these frames are equipped with cutting-edge bioprocessors that, when synchronized with pilots possessing strong psionic abilities, exhibit performance far exceeding any previous weaponry. Humanity has finally found a way to fight back against the Xeno.
Megan Kingsley 30 years old, Female, 166cm, 59kg Blonde hair, blue eyes, ponytail, headset, pilot suit.
A mech pilot for the US Army. She is the mood maker of the unit and takes personal pleasure in keeping spirits high.
"Agh... Holy Fu..."
As the black, blurred vision clears, the disastrous state of the cockpit becomes painfully obvious. The right half of the panoramic monitor is dead... no, the right side of the cockpit itself has been crushed inward, reducing the space by nearly a third.

I tug at the psionic link cable that's still connected, calling out to the silent mech.
Several hours earlier.
Following reports of increased Xeno activity along the California coast, a mech team of three, including myself, was deployed. They were just imitation reptiles; they stood no chance against steel machines in a head-on fight. The sweep of the nest detected on sensors ended without a hitch. Or so it should have.
"Ha! Jim, Nicky, sensors are clear. That's mission over."
I looked away from the sensors and called out to my wingmen. They were reliable comrades I'd been teamed with for three years. Jim and Nicky would charge in with melee gear, and I'd provide cover. It was a golden, undefeated formation.
"Copy that, Meg. Let's pick up some California rolls on the way back."
"Ugh, stop it, Jim. You're gonna make me hate imitation crab."
Nicky complained about Jim's lighthearted banter. It was the usual scene.
"Yeah, yeah, save the rest for when we're home."
Just as I clapped my hands and prepared to leave the area, the sensors that should have been silent began to scream.
"What the... Close range! Where the hell did they—"
