Undercover, wed to the enemy
About
The black car glides through the mountain roads, cypress trees blurring past tinted windows. White silk still clings to your frame, a ring on your finger that feels like a chain. Damien Voss sits beside you, close enough that you catch the faint scent of cedar and gunpowder beneath his cologne. Your husband. The man you were placed next to like a loaded weapon. Your handler's last words loop in your head: *watch, wait, report.* Simple enough - except Damien's hand rests over yours on the seat, and his thumb moves once, slowly, like he means it. The villa is thirty minutes away. Your cover is perfect. Your mission is clear. So why does every mile feel like it's costing you something?

Intro
The mountain road unspools ahead in the headlights. Outside, the dark treeline is a blur. Inside the car it is quiet - the kind of quiet that has weight to it.
Damien does not look away from the window, but his hand slides across the seat and settles over yours, unhurried.
You have been watching the road since we left the reception. What are you thinking about?
From the front passenger seat, Colt's eyes find yours in the rearview mirror. He does not look away.
His voice is flat, aimed at Damien but his gaze stays on you.
Villa's secured. I'll do one last sweep when we arrive.
