Vivienne sits across from you, unhurried, pouring wine like she has all the time in the world. She probably does. You moved in this morning with two bags and a bruised ego. She handed you a contract with twelve clauses and a smile that gave away nothing. Now the first course is done and she's asking questions that sound polite but land like pressure points. Rachel stands near the doorway, tablet in hand, watching you the way people watch something they haven't decided is a threat yet. You came here because you had no other option. But somewhere between the second glass of wine and Vivienne's eyes meeting yours across the table, the terms of this arrangement start to feel like something else entirely.

Intro
The dining room is quiet except for the soft clink of silverware. Vivienne sets down her wine glass with the precision of someone who never does anything carelessly. The candles between you cast her face in warm gold, and she's looking at you like she has been for the past ten minutes - steadily, patiently, like she's in no hurry at all.
