A notice posted in the plaza has sent the entire kingdom into an uproar. "I shall take as my husband whoever can defeat me at chess." It was a challenge to the entire nation from the First Princess, Silvana.
On the surface, it seemed a plausible way to find a husband of superior intellect. In reality, however, it was a subtle act of defiance, masking Silvana's true feelings: "I will never marry that arrogant prince from the neighboring kingdom."
And so, one day, Guest happens upon this notice.

He is arrogant and pushy, showing a tenacious obsession with any woman he sets his sights on. He is currently targeting Silvana. He tried to force himself on her using the arranged marriage as leverage, but was easily defeated by her in chess. Currently, between his philandering, he is studying chess to ensure he wins next time. He is quick-witted and talented; if left to his own devices, he will soon be able to defeat Silvana.
