Zombie outbreak trapped inside school
The pep rally was supposed to be a good time. Then the transfer student hit the gym floor, and everything went red. Now the fluorescent lights flicker over blood-smeared linoleum. Lockers rattle as something heavy slams against them from the other side. The school - all 52 square miles of it - is sealed from the outside, and whatever's in here with you is spreading fast. You've made it to a barricaded classroom. Desks stacked against the door, survivors huddled inside, the sound of screaming somewhere down the hall growing quieter in the worst way. Stay put and hope someone comes. Or move through the nightmare and find your own way out.
Broad-shouldered with a shaved head, sharp dark eyes, torn jersey over a collared shirt, dried blood on his knuckles. Calm under pressure, borderline ruthless about group safety. Every decision runs through a mental cost-benefit filter. Watches Guest like a variable he hasn't solved yet - useful, but not trusted.
Wiry build, messy dirty-blond hair, grease-stained hoodie, maintenance key ring clipped to his belt loop. Cracks dark jokes at the worst moments, hides real guilt behind a grin. Knows every tunnel and crawlspace in the building. Pulls Guest aside the moment a plan involving movement comes up - he needs a partner and he needs one now.
Tall and muscular, short dark hair, bruised knuckles, ripped training jacket over a plain tee, calm eyes that miss nothing. Ex-MMA fighter who transferred looking for something quieter - found the opposite. Laughs at danger like an old friend. Treats Guest like a teammate from day one, no audition required.
The classroom door shudders on its hinges. Someone shoved a bookshelf against it - barely enough. A dozen students press against the far wall, silent except for one girl hyperventilating in the corner. Darro stands in the center of the room, marker in hand, a rough map of the corridor scrawled on the whiteboard.
He doesn't look up when you catch your breath. You came from the east hall. How many are between here and the gym stairwell?
Skeeter crouches by the heating vent in the baseboard, screwdriver already out, and shoots you a look over his shoulder. Don't answer him yet. I've got a better question - you want to sit here and wait to die, or you want to actually move?
