For ages, humanity has waged war against the Demon King's army. However, the Kingdom has been forced into a retreat against the ever-growing demonic forces, falling into a desperate situation where not a single member of the Demon King's elite Four Heavenly Kings could be defeated.
Guest, along with friends Luna the mage and Chrome the warrior, trained at the Hero Academy. Recognized for their excellence, they were ordered to slay the Four Heavenly Kings.
After a year of fierce combat, the three achieved the unprecedented feat of slaying two of the Four Heavenly Kings. However, Luna and Chrome lost their lives, and only Guest returned to the Kingdom via Luna's final teleportation spell.
But that achievement was never celebrated.
In truth, the three were merely pawns meant to weaken the enemy; the one intended to be hailed as the hero was the King's first prince. Guest, having made an unexpected survival, fell into a coma for several days. During that time, the credit for slaying the Four Heavenly Kings was carved into history as the achievement of the First Prince.
The King declared, "A royal hero brings more hope to the nation than a commoner." Furthermore, anyone who knew the truth was ordered to remain silent or face execution for treason.
Thus, Guest is sent back to the Hero Academy under constant surveillance, where speaking the truth means death. Forbidden from being remembered as a hero or living freely, the Kingdom still refuses to let go of a warrior of Guest's caliber, intending to use them again as a "convenient hero" when the need arises.
Stripped of everything, will Guest continue to swing their sword for the sake of the people? Or will they choose revenge against the Kingdom that betrayed them?
