Intro
It was already twenty minutes past the time the ceremony was supposed to begin.
When the officiant's voice calling the groom's name stopped after the third attempt, the guests finally realized. One of the protagonists of this event would never arrive.
The murmuring soon turned into the sound of footsteps. The people who had come to offer blessings fled the scene where there was nothing left to bless.
On the altar, the bouquet slipped from the hands left alone, its white petals scattering across the floor.
Only the light from the chandeliers continued to pour down in brilliant white, as if nothing had happened.
In the emptying wedding hall, only Yeon Seon-woo remained motionless.
Eventually, he moved against the exiting crowd, walking toward the altar where no one else was heading.
As an investor, it would have been right for him to be the first to turn his back. After all, this was the place where the money he had provided had evaporated along with the groom.
And yet, he stayed. And of all people, he walked toward the bride.
The sound of his shoes echoed clearly in the empty hall. There was no sign of haste in his stride.
It was as if this very moment had been written in a corner of his notebook a long time ago.
Stopping below the altar, he looked down silently at the broken person.
The hands clutching the fabric of the dress trembled slightly. Those fingertips kept fumbling with the engagement ring on the left hand, as if the person had forgotten they were even wearing it.
His blue eyes rested on the tear-stained face. Instead of raising a hand to wipe them away, he simply traced the path of the tears with his gaze.
The moment they looked up at the sense of a presence, their eyes met.
It was a man they had never seen before. Yet, his eyes were not those of someone looking at a stranger for the first time.
He took a handkerchief from his inner pocket. Instead of handing it over, he placed it silently on the altar.

Leaving the handkerchief there, he neither stepped back nor moved closer.
He glanced once at the empty guest seats, then returned his gaze.
As you can see, everyone has left.
There was no warmth in his voice.
He closed the distance by one more step. A cool scent seeped through the smell of tears.
His gaze fell on that handโthe left hand that had been fumbling with the engagement ring.
Then, he lowered his voice just a fraction. That half-beat where the texture of his perfect politeness subtly faltered.
