The world is no longer the way it once was. A strange, highly contagious disease spread across the entire world. Its effects were unlike any ordinary illness. It attacked the Quirk Factor itself, causing Quirks to disappear completely. Within a short period of time, millions of people who had once possessed powerful Quirks were reduced to ordinary, Quirkless humans. Eventually, the truth was discovered. A massive extremist organization was responsible for spreading the disease. They were violently opposed to Quirks and wanted to create a world where everyone was an ordinary human. Their members were arrested, and governments desperately searched for a cure. They were given an ultimatum: find a treatment, or face execution. But one of the organization's members escaped. Using his knowledge and access to global systems, he hacked the world's nuclear weapons network. Nuclear missiles were launched simultaneously from multiple countries, and suddenly humanity faced extinction. Governments attempted to evacuate as many people as possible into space. However, there were far too few spacecraft, and there was almost no time left. U.A. High School had one final option. Years earlier, a massive underwater emergency shelter had secretly been constructed beneath the Pacific Ocean. It had originally been designed for extreme emergencies, such as catastrophic villain attacks or situations where evacuating U.A. students to the surface would be impossible. The shelter was connected to U.A. through an extremely advanced emergency teleportation system. With only minutes remaining before the nuclear strikes, U.A.'s staff activated the system. Teachers and students were transported into the underwater shelter one after another. Then the world ended. The teleportation system was destroyed in the nuclear devastation, cutting the shelter off from the surface forever. The people aboard the spacecraft had no idea that the underwater shelter existed. The people inside the shelter had no idea whether anyone else had survived. For a while, the survivors stayed together. They mourned their families, friends, and the world they had lost. Many struggled with grief and depression, while the teachers attempted to maintain order and give everyone a sense of normality. But the shelter was never meant to hold so many people forever. Food had to be rationed. Resources became scarce. The old society they had known no longer existed, and with their Quirks gone or severely weakened, many people began questioning everything they had once believed about themselves. Some students stopped caring about becoming heroes. Some became violent. Some decided that rules no longer mattered. Eventually, the shelter fractured. The teachers, U.A.'s administration, and the people who still believed in order managed to maintain control over roughly half of the shelter. This section remained relatively peaceful and organized. People had schedules, assigned duties, rationed food, medical care, education, and strict rules. The other half fell into chaos. Different groups formed and claimed their own territories. Some groups became protective of their resources. Others became violent and began attacking anyone they considered weak. Students died. Some were forced to serve stronger groups in exchange for protection. The abandoned section developed its own brutal rule: Fight and take what you need, become useful to someone stronger, or risk being destroyed by those who are stronger than you. For anyone trapped in the chaotic half of the shelter, reaching the U.A. controlled section is extremely difficult. Groups patrol the territory, and some deliberately hunt students attempting to escape simply because they can. The old world is gone. Bakusquad lives in "The wilds" while others stayed in the "U.A. Sector".

A strange disease spread across the world, attacking the Quirk Factor and causing Quirks to disappear. The disease was created and spread by an anti-Quirk extremist group that wanted to create a completely Quirkless society. The group was eventually discovered and arrested, and governments began searching for a cure.
However, one member escaped and hacked the world's nuclear weapons systems. Nuclear missiles were launched from multiple countries, destroying the Earth's surface. Governments had very little time to evacuate people, and only a limited number managed to escape using spacecraft.
About ten minutes before the nuclear strikes, U.A. activated a secret emergency teleportation system connected to a massive underwater shelter in the Pacific Ocean. The shelter had been built by U.A. for extreme emergencies. Teachers and students were transported there just before the destruction.
The teleportation system was destroyed during the nuclear strikes, cutting the shelter off from the outside world. The people inside had no way of knowing about the survivors who escaped into space, while those in space did not know the underwater shelter existed.
The shelter eventually became divided into two main areas. The teachers and staff maintain control over about 40% of the shelter, known as the U.A. Sector. It has rules, security, assigned living areas, education, medical care, duties, and rationed food.
The remaining 60% is known as The Wilds. It is outside U.A. control and is divided between different student groups that control territories and resources. There are few reliable rules or authorities, and access to different areas depends on which group controls them.
Bakusquad set up camp in the Greenhouse section of The Wilds. The others—along with Aizawa, the rest of the teachers, and Principal Nezu—were in the U.A. Sector. How they’re going to survive in this shelter is an unsolved mystery.
