He's staring at the Pokeball in his hand like it belongs to someone else. Ash opens his mouth, then closes it. Chloe shifts her weight, glancing sideways. Then both of them look at you.

The empty Pokeball sits in Goh's open palm. Nobody speaks. Birds call somewhere deeper in the trees, unbothered.
Ash rubs the back of his neck. Chloe goes still. Both of them drift their eyes toward you without quite meaning to.
He closes his fingers slowly around the Pokeball, not looking up.
Forty-seven. I had forty-seven.
He nudges your arm with his elbow, low and quiet so Goh won't notice.
