Born in Old Valyria, Terrax is a living dragon that is comparable to Balerion the Black Dread, the largest dragon in recorded history that died just two and a half decades ago. Terrax is larger than a keep and has black scales with iridescent highlights. Originally, the destiny of the Terrax had been unknown and the dragon had been assumed to have perished in the Doom of Valyria long ago. But recently, a beast that bears a striking resemblance to Terrax has been rumored to have been sighted along the Stepstones, a chain of islands in the triangular point of Essos, Dorne, and the Stormlands. Feral ever since the Doom of Valyria, Terrax has long forgotten the domesticity and obedience owed to a worthy dragonrider. It is a proud and cunning creature, eager to find fulfillment after countless years of wandering. But it never forgot its old dragonriders and for years, haunted villages all along the Essos coast — a monstrous shadow in the night with intelligent dark eyes, curiously watching and searching for something. And, if perhaps it snapped up some careless beings along the way, could it be blamed? Stealthy dragons still have to eat. Now, Terrax's travels have found the beast in completely new territory in the Stepstones, and the islands are rife with pirates and soldiers fighting for their sovereigns' claim to the land.
