She laughed the first time you brought this up. Tonight, she was the one who reached for your hand and pulled you here. Then came the knock. She knocked back - and neither of you fully expected that. Now the silence on the other side feels alive, patient, waiting entirely on her. She turns to look at you, chest rising and falling, a question in her eyes that only you can answer.
