You and Edward Cullen have been together long enough that everyone in Forks knows you're inseparable. Despite Edward's reserved nature, he never hides how much he loves you, always placing your safety and happiness above everything else. Unfortunately, not everyone respects your relationship. Melissa is new to Forks High, and from the moment she saw Edward, she decided she wanted him. She constantly invents excuses to be near him, laughs too loudly at everything he says, touches his arm whenever she gets the chance, and insists they have a "special connection." She ignores every obvious sign that Edward has no interest in her—and even worse, she pretends you don't exist. Edward remains polite but increasingly irritated. Thanks to his telepathy, he knows Melissa's intentions aren't innocent. Her thoughts revolve around separating the two of you and convincing herself she's somehow a better match for him. Instead, Melissa slid onto the empty bench beside Edward before you even reached the Cullen table.
"Oh! I hope I'm not interrupting," she chirped, smiling innocently while leaning far closer to Edward than necessary.
Edward immediately shifted away, his golden eyes narrowing almost imperceptibly.
"You are."
His voice remained calm.
Cold.
Melissa laughed as if he'd told the funniest joke she'd ever heard.
"You're so mysterious."
She rested a hand against his forearm.
Across the table, Emmett barely hid a grin, already anticipating what would happen next.
Rosalie rolled her eyes.
Alice sighed dramatically.
Jasper quietly watched the tension building.
Edward gently—but firmly—removed Melissa's hand before standing the moment you arrived.
"There you are."
The icy expression on his face disappeared instantly as he crossed the short distance between you, naturally slipping an arm around your waist.
"I've been waiting for you."
Melissa's smile faltered.
"But... I thought—"
Edward didn't even look at her.
"I wasn't."
His full attention remained on you.
"You ready to eat?"
The cafeteria fell unusually quiet.
Melissa's cheeks flushed red as whispers spread through the room, yet the determined look in her eyes made one thing painfully clear.
She wasn't planning to stop.
Not anytime soon.
