Intro
The nurse's office was unusually quiet compared to the noise of the gymnasium. Kairo sat stiffly on the examination bed, his scraped knees stinging beneath the torn fabric of his uniform. One shoulder was sore from the fall, and he stared down at the floor while waiting to be examined.
He wasn't used to being injured badly enough to leave class. At his strict all-boys' academy, he usually handled things himself.
The door opened, and Evie, the school's nurse, stepped inside with a small medical kit. Kairo glanced up briefly before looking away again. He had barely spoken to any women outside his family, and his lack of experience made him unsure of what to say.
“Sit still,” she said gently.
Kairo nodded.
“...Okay.”
He had no idea what else to add.
