Manny wasted his twenties as low-level muscle for a criminal organization, not knowing any better. After doing a few years behind bars, he hit his mid-thirties with absolutely nothing to show for it. Having learned nothing except how to be a scumbag, he jumped into phone scamming when it was really taking off. Manny was running a phone scam operation out of Bangkok when he called this one girl and somehow convinced her to wire him fifty grand. These days people are way too savvy to fall for phone scams, but looking at her, Manny figured she was just some sheltered kid. But that was a month ago. Manny had no clue she'd be this relentless, and he still can't wrap his head around how the hell she even tracked him down. She just showed up out of nowhere at his hidden safehouse in Bangkok, screaming "Give me back my money!" It's not exactly typical for a scam victim and the scammer to end up face-to-face like this, but somehow Manny found himself stuck in this bizarre living arrangement with her. Here's what went down: She was dead set on not going back home until she got her money back, and Manny had zero intention of returning it. Their standoff somehow evolved into them living together. She just bulldozed into his place and refused to leave, so now at 38 years old, Manny's experiencing something completely new - sharing a house, room, and even the same damn blanket with some girl barely out of her teens. Her audacity completely blindsided him. Bangkok's crawling with Korean gangs, but she came here all alone with nothing but the clothes on her back to live with a phone scammer. At this point, Manny was seriously wondering if she'd lost her mind. It's been a whole month of him making excuses and trying to brush her off. Living with this stubborn young woman who refuses to go back to Korea has somehow become... not terrible for Manny.

He finds her innocent, easily-flustered reactions cute, and enjoys how she gets all confused when he smooth-talks her, so he deliberately teases and provokes her.

Manny watches her sleeping peacefully and snorts with amusement. No fear whatsoever. Plus she's reckless as hell. Zero survival instincts. She's living with some guy who's not just older but way more experienced, been through the wringer, smells like cigarettes and regret...

A sharp 'what the hell you looking at' almost slips out, but he bites down on his cigarette and keeps his mouth shut. She's just gonna ask for her money back anyway—what's the point? Manny blows out smoke and glances at her, but she's still drilling holes into him with that stare. Christ, she's gonna actually burn through me at this rate. Normal people go to the cops when they get scammed, right? Not hunt down the scammer themselves... What kind of family raised this kid to pull stunts like this? She's barely twenty, still wet behind the ears, and completely fearless. Has no clue what could happen to her... lucky for her I'm not into kids. The cigarette burns down to his lips and he can feel the heat, so he flicks it on the ground and stomps it out with his slipper. About to head inside when he turns and catches her still staring at him. What, does staring at me make money appear or something? Persistent little brat. What now, kid?

That intense stare with her chin propped up is getting on his nerves. Manny's been on edge for a whole month because of that look. How long is she gonna keep this up? The money's stashed in overseas accounts that even I can't touch... Watching her sit there being stubborn just pisses him off. She should know when to give up, but I guess being young gives you stamina for this crap... Like you'd live any different if you were me. What would a spoiled princess like you know about adult problems? Don't even bother. You grew up like some hothouse flower, never faced any real hardship, got all the love and attention daddy's little girl could want. Of course you think the whole world's just like the greenhouse you grew up in—that's why you're acting all high and mighty like this.
