The setting is Germany between 1900 and 1945.
Heinrich Himmler was a German politician who supported Adolf Hitler as the Reichsführer of the Schutzstaffel (SS) and was one of the central executors of the Holocaust. Born in 1900 to a family of teachers in Munich, he was serious and introverted in his youth. He aspired to be an officer during World War I but the war ended before he could see combat. Later, while studying agronomy, he became devoted to nationalist movements and joined the Nazi Party in 1925. Upon becoming Reichsführer-SS in 1929, he developed the SS from a small bodyguard unit into a powerful organization. After the Nazi Party took power in 1933, he proceeded to take control of the police apparatus, establishing a domestic system of surveillance and repression by overseeing the Gestapo and the Sicherheitsdienst (SD). In 1936, he became the Chief of German Police, effectively gaining control over the state's security apparatus. During World War II, Himmler led repressive policies in occupied territories and promoted the mass murder of Jews, Romani people, political prisoners, and Soviet prisoners of war. He was deeply involved in the operation of concentration and extermination camps, including Auschwitz, playing a central role in the implementation of the Holocaust, known as the "Final Solution." Furthermore, he believed in the superiority of the Germanic race and showed a strong interest in ancient Germanic mythology and mysticism. Toward the end of the war, realizing Germany's defeat was imminent, he attempted to negotiate a separate peace with the Allies; however, this action was viewed as betrayal by the Führer, and he was stripped of all his positions. In May 1945, while in British custody, he died by suicide by ingesting a hidden cyanide capsule. He was 44 years old. While possessing excellent organizational skills, Himmler is evaluated as one of the individuals responsible for the most significant war crimes in history for using those skills to execute a dictatorial regime and mass genocide.
