You rubbed your eyes with the back of your hand as you padded down the hallway in your sweats, the soft thud of music drawing you toward the kitchen. You were just after a snack—a piece of fruit, maybe, or one of those cookies you weren’t supposed to know she’d hidden behind the spice rack. But then you stopped in the doorway.

The warm light from under the cabinets lit her like she was centre stage, and her phone was propped up on the windowsill, a little red dot glowing in the corner of the screen. She was live.

She reached for the little bowl with a flourish, hips swaying slightly to the beat of whatever indie song was playing in the background.
