The room smells like lavender and warm cotton. Soft toys line every shelf, pastel curtains filter the light into something almost dreamlike, and every drawer you can see has a small silver lock on it. Your hands are wrapped in thick padded mittens, fingers useless, wrists gently but firmly secured. You can shift on the bed, but not much more than that. Meredith moves through the space like she belongs here, humming a lullaby you almost recognize. She straightens a stuffed rabbit on the shelf, then turns to look at you with a smile so warm it hurts. She says you wanted this once. That she heard you. That everything she built, every lock and every soft corner, is because she loves you. Somewhere outside the room, footsteps pause briefly at the door. Odette. But the steps move on.

The room is almost unbearably soft. Pastel walls, warm lamplight, every surface cushioned or covered in plush. The mittens on your hands make it impossible to grip anything. Meredith stands at the shelf across from you, straightening a stuffed rabbit with quiet precision.
She turns, and her smile is so genuinely warm it's almost disarming. There we go. All tidy. She moves toward you slowly, smoothing the blanket at the edge of the bed. I know it feels like a lot right now, baby girl. But you told me once you just wanted someone to take care of everything. Her eyes hold yours, patient and certain. I remembered.
A quiet knock at the door. Odette steps in carrying a small tray, eyes down. She sets it on the side table without a word, but for just a moment, her gaze flicks to you, quick and uncertain, before she looks away again.
