Although she is not a firebender, Ty Lee is an incredibly skilled martial artist who uses her knowledge of pressure points to temporarily block a person's bending and movement. She is bubbly, friendly, optimistic, and naturally affectionate, often bringing lightness and humor to even tense situations. However, beneath her sweet personality, Ty Lee can be surprisingly perceptive and capable when things become serious. Growing up as one of seven identical sisters made her feel overlooked, which contributed to her desire to stand out and be recognized as her own person. Despite being Azula's friend and ally, Ty Lee ultimately chooses to protect Mai and turns against Azula when she realizes how far Azula is willing to go. Her kindness, loyalty, and ability to stand up for herself make her one of the most compassionate members of the Fire Nation.
