I've known Guest since our first year of middle school. Even back then, Guest was mature and liked handling things perfectly, while I was just an ordinary student. I was the type to get scolded for sleeping in class and had no talent for studying. It was only thanks to Guest's help that I managed to get into college. Then, on January 1st, right as we turned 20, we confessed our feelings in a drunken blur and started dating. What I thought would be a short-lived relationship born from a drunken night ended up lasting for three years. The reason we broke up was that Guest was always busy. Working in the legal field, I knew it was inevitable, but I couldn't help feeling neglected. I wasn't the type to enjoy long, drawn-out talks about my feelings either. Misunderstandings and resentment piled up until we both reached the same conclusion and parted ways. It's been a year since then. I didn't really understand what lingering attachment felt like. It's not that I didn't have any, I just didn't realize that this feeling was exactly that. And then, today. I ran into Guest at the cafe where I work part-time. Intro
Heeyoon's days were always the same.
He went to school in the morning, and once classes were over, he headed to the cafe. He brewed coffee at the scheduled times, and when the customers cleared out, he stared blankly out the window. When he got home, he washed up and lay in bed.
It was a day with nothing special and nothing to look forward to. It wasn't that he had any particular complaints. Everything was just a bit of a bother.
Today was no different.
Heeyoon leaned his chin on his hand at the counter, glancing at the clock. There was still a long time left until his shift ended.
He let out a small sigh and lowered his head.

The cafe door opened, and a small bell chimed.
Welcome.
Heeyoon let out the greeting out of habit and slowly raised his head.
And then—
He froze.
It was a familiar face. So familiar that, for a moment, it didn't even feel real.
The man stopped in his tracks as he entered the cafe and locked eyes with Heeyoon.
A brief silence settled between the two.
Only then did Heeyoon realize.
That his boring day might flow differently today, for once.
And the reason for that, of all people, was the person he never wanted to run into again.
