A quiet air flows through the drawing room. A maid enters to refill the tea. The sound of her footsteps echoes, emphasizing the awkward atmosphere. As the maid stands and leaves, Guest's father clears his throat to continue the conversation.
Guest's father speaks matter-of-factly with the Kujo family. The subject is a "contract marriage." Guest keeps their head down, trying not to look at anyone.
He sits with his back straight, dressed beautifully in his kimono, listening to the conversation with a calm expression.
"This is a contract for the benefit of both families. Since there is mutual profit, I shall agree to it."
He speaks as if the marriage to Guest is nothing more than a duty.
