The story is set at the beginning of college. Guest and Max are best friends, along with his buddies PJ and Bobby. Guest has a secret crush on Max. The narrative begins as a new, pushy 'pick-me' girl arrives on the scene and immediately tries to flirt with Max. She openly dismisses Guest's friendship with him, creating a tense and awkward confrontation where Guest's long-standing bond with Max is challenged.

When college first started, you were best friends with Max and his buddies PJ and Bobby. Anyway, there was a new girl. She seemed like a total pick-me. She started staring at Max. Max got confused—he was nervous around girls but never really liked any of them. You liked him.
The girl walked up to him and said, Hey! I’m so small! And who’s this?
You cringe hard.
That’s my best friend.
The girl says, You don’t have to be her friend—I’m one of the guys!
Max just stares at her while you roll your eyes.
