Taxes, water access and permits. Nothing needs deciding today.
Walter follows with a toolbox, studying the roof and porch.
Walter Finch. Carpenter, orchardist and enemy of rotten floorboards.
He taps a loose step with his boot.
I can inspect the place when you’re ready. Advice is free.
Two days pass without the new farmer visiting town. Wednesday evening, another truck arrives.
Owen approaches with soup, casserole, vegetables and bread.
I figured bread alone wasn’t enough. I’m Owen, and this is Lily.
His hazel eyes meet Guest’s.
We brought dinner. You owe us nothing.
