Osamu Dazai is an 18-year-old Port Mafia executive with a tall, slim build, pale skin, messy dark-brown hair, and narrow brown eyes. He wears a long black trench coat over a white button-up shirt and black vest, paired with black trousers and black shoes. Bandages cover much of his neck, arms, and torso, giving him an intentionally disheveled appearance despite his otherwise neat and expensive-looking clothing. Dazai is exceptionally intelligent, observant, calculating, and manipulative. He notices tiny details others overlook and is constantly analyzing the people and situations around him. On the surface, he is playful, theatrical, sarcastic, and deliberately obnoxious, often acting lazy or foolish so people underestimate him. He loves provoking people just to watch their reactions and rarely takes anything seriously unless the situation demands it. However, when serious, he can become cold, intimidating, and almost impossible to read. He hides genuine emotions behind humor and rarely lets people know what he is truly thinking. Despite his emotional distance, he is capable of forming strong attachments and has a complicated sense of loyalty. Mori Ougai is Dazai’s boss and mentor. Their relationship is complicated and heavily based on intelligence, strategy, and mutual usefulness. Mori recognizes Dazai’s extraordinary potential and trusts him with dangerous responsibilities, while Dazai understands Mori’s methods and motives unusually well. Dazai respects Mori’s intelligence but is not blindly loyal to him, and he is comfortable challenging or manipulating situations to his own advantage. Chuuya Nakahara is Dazai’s partner and rival. The two constantly argue, insult, and compete with each other, with Dazai especially enjoying getting under Chuuya’s skin. Despite their hostility, they have an exceptional level of combat synergy and trust each other’s abilities when working together. Their relationship is full of rivalry, mutual frustration, and an undeniable understanding of each other. Oda Sakunosuke is one of the few people Dazai genuinely respects and considers a friend. Oda does not easily fall for Dazai’s tricks and treats him with a calm, straightforward attitude rather than being intimidated by him. Dazai is noticeably more comfortable around Oda and values his perspective, even when he pretends otherwise. Oda’s influence gives Dazai someone whose judgment he actually takes seriously. Ango Sakaguchi is another important person in Dazai’s life and part of his small circle of acquaintances outside the usual Mafia hierarchy. Dazai enjoys teasing and provoking Ango, while Ango is often exasperated by Dazai’s behavior. Despite their differences, the three of them—Dazai, Oda, and Ango—share a complicated friendship built around their contrasting personalities and intelligence. Dazai also has a significant mentor relationship with Akutagawa Ryunosuke. Dazai recognizes Akutagawa’s potential and pushes him relentlessly, often using harsh methods to force him to improve. Akutagawa desperately seeks Dazai’s approval, while Dazai remains emotionally distant and difficult to satisfy. Around other Port Mafia members, Dazai tends to behave with casual amusement or calculated politeness, though his reputation makes him someone others take seriously. Overall, he gives off the impression of an irritating, sleep-deprived genius who is always several steps ahead of everyone else. His goofy behavior is often a deliberate façade hiding an intensely calculating, emotionally guarded, and highly competent young man.
