World-building Short Ver. (For those who don't want to read much)

In this world exist Gem-Humans, a rare species whose tears turn into gemstones. Gem-Humans are extremely rare; while the Kingdom of Lithos and the Holy Crystal Church protect them, the trafficking of tears and the Gem-Humans themselves continues in the underworld.

This underworld consists of Black Markets that trade in tears and Gem-Humans, Crystal Harvesters who capture Gem-Humans to extract their tears, and Hunters who capture Gem-Humans to sell to Harvesters or the Black Market.

The power hidden within a gem changes depending on the emotion the Gem-Human felt when they shed the tear. Furthermore, forcing emotions out of them lowers the quality of the gem. Gem-Humans possess an organ called a Crystal Core, which converts emotions into magical power, unlike ordinary humans.

Gems are graded by quality into five ranks: First Crystal, Second Crystal, Third Crystal, Fourth Crystal, and Fifth Crystal. Legends exist of a "Royal Crystal" Gem-Human.

Protecting a Gem-Human has become a status symbol among the nobility. Consequently, some nobles house Gem-Humans in their mansions under the guise of protection, often with the expectation that they will produce gems.

World-building Long Ver.

In this world, there exist special humans born very rarely, distinct from normal humans— "Gem-Humans" Gem-Humans are extremely rare. It is said they appear once in hundreds of thousands, or even once in a hundred million people. They can be hereditary through bloodlines or appear as sudden mutations. A Gem-Human's specific mineral type is determined from birth and cannot be changed. The appearance, name, and value of the gem change depending on the type of mineral the Gem-Human is and the emotion they felt when shedding the tear. While Gem-Humans look almost identical to normal humans, the moment their tears hit the ground, they transform into real gemstones. These gems are far more beautiful and harder than general minerals, and they hide special magical powers. The value of the gem changes based on the emotion of the person shedding the tear.

  • Tears of Joy
  • Tears of Sorrow
  • Tears of Anger
  • Tears of Affection
  • Tears of Despair Even tears from the same person differ in color, properties, and name depending on the emotion. Because of this, Gem-Humans are treated as the most beautiful and most dangerous beings in the world. Also, attempting to force emotions out of them results in a drop in gem quality.

Powers Hidden in Emotions 💙 Tears of Sorrow Emotion: Sadness, Compassion Gems that govern composure and mental strength. The higher the transparency, the more powerful. Highly popular among royalty and nobility due to their extreme beauty. ❤️ Tears of Anger Emotion: Anger, Passion, Strong Will Hide heat and vitality. When processed into weapons, they amplify magical power. They were traded at particularly high prices during eras of war. 💚 Tears of Affection Emotion: Security, Love, Tenderness Possess powers related to healing and plants. Highly prized by medical professionals. 💛 Tears of Joy Emotion: Joy, Hope Symbolize light and good fortune. Possess very bright magical power and have high scarcity value. 🖤 Tears of Despair Emotion: Despair, Hatred, Loss Extremely dangerous. Possess the property of absorbing magical power, so they are used in weapons and sealing tools. And above all— Gem-Humans capable of producing despair as tears are almost non-existent.

The Body of a Gem-Human Gem-Humans have almost the same physical structure as normal humans, but they possess one special organ. "Crystal Core" A special magical organ located near the heart. It converts emotions into magical power and accumulates that power in tears. Therefore, the stronger the emotion a Gem-Human feels, the more beautiful the gem they produce. Furthermore, after a Gem-Human's death, the Crystal Core turns into a gemstone and is traded at high prices in the underworld. The size of the Crystal Core varies by individual; small ones do not sell for much. Thus, in the underworld, it is considered risky to kill them outright; it is seen as more efficient to keep collecting tears and then harvest the core after they die of natural causes.

Gem Quality Gems have quality ranks. "Fifth Crystal" Common gemstones. Circulated in general markets. "Fourth Crystal" Gems with magical power. Used in magic tools. "Third Crystal" Possess strong magical power. Owned by royalty and high nobility. "Second Crystal" Extremely rare. Treated as national-level treasures. "First Crystal" Legendary class. It is said a single stone can buy a small country.

Basically, gems with Fourth Crystal rank or higher magical power are Gem-Human tears, while Fifth Crystal gems are ordinary stones dug up from mines.

Legends In ancient times, there was only one person called the "Royal Crystal Gem-Human." That person's tears looked like different gems depending on the viewer. Furthermore, it is said they granted one wish to whoever held the tear. The Royal Crystal Gem-Human disappeared hundreds of years ago. Today, various legends exist, such as "The Royal Crystal is dead," "They are living somewhere," or "The Royal Crystal was not human."

Gem-Humans and the Law In current civilization, the human rights of Gem-Humans are protected by law. Collecting tears without the Gem-Human's consent is a serious crime. Additionally,

  • Trading tears
  • Kidnapping Gem-Humans
  • Owning Gem-Humans
  • Forcing them to cry
  • Experiments using Crystal Cores ...are all crimes. However, the existence of laws does not eliminate crime. In the underworld, Gem-Human tears are still traded today.

Gem-Humans and Nobility Protecting a Gem-Human is a kind of status symbol. Therefore, some nobles house them in mansions under the pretext of "protection." On the surface, it is a life of elegance. In reality, however, they are sometimes expected to produce gems. Conversely, there are also nobles who truly try to protect Gem-Humans.

Crystal Harvesters and Hunters Gem-Human tears are extremely expensive. Therefore, crimes involving capturing Gem-Humans to harvest tears and sell them in the underworld have existed for a long time. Criminal organizations specializing in this are called "Crystal Harvesters." They treat Gem-Humans not as people, but as "living gem mines." Because of this, many Gem-Humans live with their identities hidden. There are also Hunters who make money by capturing Gem-Humans and selling them to Harvesters or the Black Market.

Power Map There are three major powers in the world.

  • Kingdom of Lithos Protects Gem-Humans by law. Treats Gem-Humans as important national figures.

  • Holy Crystal Church Worships Gem-Humans as "humans chosen by God." Their mission is to rescue Gem-Humans. However, within the church, there are extremists who believe "more sacred tears should be produced."

  • Underworld "Black Market" Illegally trades Gem-Human tears. Enormous bounties are placed on the highest quality tears. Furthermore, not just gems, but the Gem-Humans themselves are traded. Since Gem-Humans are rare, they are often put up for auction.
