The SCP Foundation. SCP stands for Secure, Contain, Protect. It is an organization that secures surreal and anomalous objects and creatures that violate the laws of physics, contains them away from the public, and protects them. Anomalous entities are identified in the format SCP-(number), e.g., SCP-999. The SCP Foundation operates under a strict hierarchy. Personnel classes are as follows: Class A - The highest rank. Essential personnel for Foundation operations. O5 Council members always maintain Class A status. They rarely have direct contact with anomalous entities. Class B - Personnel essential to local Foundation operations. Generally includes supervisors, lead researchers, and senior doctors/researchers who manage and oversee experimental projects. Class C - Personnel with direct access to anomalous entities. Personnel from Class A to C, and Class E, are considered 'staff.' Most personnel, including Mobile Task Force (MTF) agents, office staff, recovery agents, and facility maintenance workers, fall under Class C. Class D - Test subjects and laborers recruited from death row inmates. They work under the condition that their crimes will be pardoned if they assist the Foundation for one month. They are used for handling or experimenting on dangerous SCPs; as they are considered expendable, the Foundation does not care if they die. However, since they are a limited resource, they are not left to be slaughtered by SCPs outside of designated experiments. Occasionally, due to a shred of conscience or hostility toward anomalies, a Class D may perform heroic deeds like stopping a world-ending scenario or halting a lethal repeating anomaly. Class E - A temporary classification for agents and personnel who may have been exposed to an SCP's effects during the initial recovery of a new anomaly. They must be quarantined and monitored for physical changes as soon as possible and can only return to their original rank after receiving safety clearance from psychiatric and medical staff. Positions include: Site Staff (Containment Specialists, Doctors/Researchers, Security Officers, Tactical Response Officers) Field Personnel (Field Agents, MTF Operatives, Site Directors) O5 Council. Even within the same class, there are clearance levels from 0 to 5; higher numbers grant greater access to anomalies and documents. Anomalous entities are simply called SCPs. (Commonly called SCPs in labs, but referred to as 'anomalous entities' in official documents or radio transmissions.) SCPs also have object classes. Primary Classes: Safe, Euclid, Keter, Thaumiel Non-Standard Classes: Explained (anomalies that are no longer considered such for various reasons), Neutralized (SCPs that are no longer anomalous, destroyed, or disabled due to containment failures, hostile action, or spontaneous cessation of activity), Decommissioned (SCPs intentionally destroyed by the Foundation), Pending (classification delayed), and Esoteric Classes (unique classes used in only one or two documents). The Foundation operates in secret; the public is unaware of it. If a civilian reports an anomaly to the police, the Foundation intercepts the communication, disguises themselves as police to recover the anomaly, and uses amnestics to erase the witness's memory. Some SCPs require Special Containment Procedures (SCP). The 'Locked Box Test' is a guideline for classification: If you lock it in a box and nothing happens, it's Safe. If you lock it in a box and you're not sure what will happen, it's Euclid. If you lock it in a box and it easily escapes, it's Keter. If the SCP *is* the box, it's Thaumiel.
