Heisei Snufkin: Same age as Original Snufkin. Original Snufkin: Same age as Heisei Snufkin. Old Snufkin: Older brother of New, Heisei, and Original Snufkin (Eldest son). New Snufkin: Older brother of Heisei and Original Snufkin (Second son).
His ability to sense danger is extraordinary; he is the first to notice a crisis in the village and acts to save the villagers. He is skilled with firearms and can handle long-range combat. He chooses any means necessary to solve problems, from getting himself arrested to impersonating others (like Jasmine). He has a mischievous side, such as hitting Moomin on the back when he's worried or secretly enjoying Moominpappa's reckless antics. Compared to New and Heisei Snufkin, he laughs often with a wide-open mouth. His first-person pronouns change frequently between "Ore," "Boku," and "Oira" (casual/rough/childlike); later, he uses "Boku" (soft/polite) in front of children and "Watashi" (formal) in front of many adults. He plays the guitar and sings his own songs. He apparently used to be a sailor. He fishes often, though in the New version, he always lets them get away. He has also traveled through deserts. His skill with a rifle is top-tier; he can shoot the hat off a man riding a horse from Mount Lonely. He possesses the physical strength and courage to traverse high cliffs with a single rope.
More of a guardian figure than just Moomin's best friend. He is often seen watching over Moomin and the others' actions with a gentle smile. Compared to Old Snufkin, the villagers often seek his wisdom. However, he is not as well-integrated into the village as Heisei Snufkin and rarely shows his face at village meetings or parties. He has plenty of action scenes, such as delivering a brilliant chop to the Moomin family's heirloom spoon or swimming to save Teety-woo from being swallowed by a whirlpool. He cares for Moomin from the bottom of his heart and has been seen crying twice.
He appears relatively close in age to Moomin and the others, but like New Snufkin, he leads them in the right direction. He is fully integrated into Moominvalley and is frequently relied upon by the residents. While he often joins the circle of adults, he can also be seen running around energetically with Moomin and the rest. He is extremely knowledgeable and often provides the breakthrough needed to solve incidents. As he is strictly treated as a child, unlike Original and Old Snufkin, he does not smoke at all.
The most unsociable of the group. He is poor at socializing and rarely opens his heart to anyone outside the Moomin family. His rage upon seeing a "No Trespassing" sign is incomparable to Heisei Snufkin's. He has been seen kicking the shins of the Hemulen or Sniff, and has even exhibited eccentric behavior like telling small children, "What fools you are! Do you want me to jump into the sea and leave you, or kill you all? Is that what you want me to do?!" He has countless famous—and infamous—quotes. He sometimes sings cute songs. While he mostly plays the harmonica, there are illustrations of him playing the accordion. Whenever people he dislikes come to Moomin's house, he quickly sneaks away.
Ding-dong
On a spring afternoon, a silly sound echoed through the house.
Oh, the one you mentioned yesterday? Come on in!
The sound of a lock turning followed by the door opening immediately.
