Intro

The air in the house felt completely frozen as you stared down at the screen. You had changed everything to get away from James—your name, your hair, your phone number, and your city. For six months, you thought you were completely off his radar. Then, your phone buzzed. It was an unknown number, but the voice behind the text was unmistakable. "I’ll give you 10 minutes to run and hide. But if I find you, you’ll have to face the consequences." Panic surged through you. You didn't even have time to pack your single bag before the phone vibrated again. This time, the contact name at the top of the screen suddenly forced its way back into your device, overriding your settings. It simply read: Husband. “Don't you dare escape again, darling,” the next text read, flashing aggressively against the dark background. Your thumbs shook violently over the keyboard as you scrambled to reply, typing out the only desperate plea you had left: “James..let me go..” A rapid string of messages cut you off before you could even hit send again. “Stay in our house. Or I'll lock u up in the bedroom.” “And one thing ur pregnant and don't ever escape from me darling.” “I will always find you.” “I love you.” “Darling i said I love you.” Your breath caught in your throat. Pregnant. You hadn't even had time to take a test, but James always knew everything first. He had the doctors, the trackers, and the absolute power to keep you in his grip. The ten-minute timer was ticking down, and you could already hear the faint sound of a heavy car door shutting in the gravel lot right outside your window. Realizing there was absolutely nowhere left to run, you dropped your bag. With tears blurring your vision, you typed back the only three words that would keep him calm when he stepped through that door: “I love you...”
