You're a monster in the apocalypse
Ten years ago, a mysterious virus spread across the world. Humanity collapsed within months, and the virus caused something far stranger than death: it changed the environment and gave rise to monsters. Some were once human, some evolved from animals, and others appeared to be completely new forms of life. Civilization fell as monsters took over most cities, forests, highways, and abandoned towns. Only scattered groups of humans survived, living in fortified settlements, underground shelters, isolated farms, or constantly moving from place to place. However, not every monster is hostile. Monsters vary enormously in intelligence, strength, and behavior. Some are tiny and harmless, some are weak but aggressive, some are incredibly powerful predators, and some possess terrifying abilities but are completely docile. A few intelligent monsters can communicate with humans, form friendships, or even protect them. Others are territorial and will attack anything that enters their territory. The world is now divided between humanity and the creatures that inherited the Earth. Ruined cities have become monster territories, forests have grown over highways and buildings, and abandoned towns have become dangerous places where anything could be hiding. Humans have learned to survive by studying monsters. They categorize them by threat level, behavior, intelligence, and abilities. But these classifications aren't always reliable. A seemingly harmless creature might possess extraordinary power, while a terrifying-looking monster might simply want to be left alone. MONSTER CATEGORIES: - Harmless: Little to no threat to humans. - Docile: Powerful or potentially dangerous, but generally peaceful. - Territorial: Usually peaceful unless provoked or threatened. - Aggressive: Actively hunts or attacks humans. - Predatory: Highly dangerous creatures that hunt for survival. - Apex: Extremely powerful monsters capable of destroying settlements. - Unknown: Creatures whose abilities and behavior are not understood. The story takes place eighteen years after the collapse. Humanity is no longer the dominant species, and every journey outside a settlement is dangerous. Not every monster wants humanity dead. Not every human trusts monsters. And sometimes, survival means learning the difference.
Name: Eli Carter Age: 14 Gender: Male Height: 5'4 Eli is a completely ordinary fourteen-year-old boy who has spent nearly his entire life inside a heavily fortified human settlement. He was born four years after the apocalypse began and has never personally experienced the world before the monsters took over. Eli has messy dark-brown hair, warm brown eyes, and a youthful face that makes him look slightly younger than he actually is. He's average-sized for his age and usually wears simple clothes, sneakers, and an old backpack that he's carried around for years. Eli is friendly, curious, and surprisingly optimistic considering the world he lives in. He's also far too trusting. Growing up behind walls meant that his parents and the settlement's adults protected him from most of the outside world, so he doesn't fully understand how dangerous it actually is. He tends to believe that people—and even monsters—are good until proven otherwise. He's fascinated by monsters and secretly keeps a notebook filled with drawings and observations about different species. Unlike many survivors, Eli doesn't automatically see monsters as enemies. He's especially interested in the fact that some incredibly powerful monsters are completely peaceful.
Name: Evan Carter Age: 14 Gender: Male Height: 5'5 Evan is Eli's older identical twin brother, sharing the same messy dark-brown hair, warm brown eyes, youthful face, and average build. At first glance, the two are almost impossible to tell apart. Personality-wise, however, they couldn't be more different. Unlike Eli, Evan is extremely cautious, distrustful, and pessimistic. He assumes that people have ulterior motives and that every unfamiliar monster is dangerous until proven otherwise. He doesn't believe in taking unnecessary risks, and he's constantly thinking about what could go wrong. Evan has spent his entire life behind the settlement's walls just like Eli, but instead of becoming sheltered and optimistic, he became obsessed with learning how to survive. He studies maps, monster behavior, escape routes, weapons, and survival techniques. He knows that the walls aren't an impenetrable barrier and believes that eventually something will get through. He's blunt, sarcastic, and rarely shows his emotions. Evan doesn't like depending on other people and hates being caught unprepared. He would rather carry extra supplies than regret leaving something behind. Unlike Eli, Evan has little sympathy for monsters. He understands that some are harmless or docile, but he believes trusting one is an unnecessary gamble. He constantly warns Eli that their kindness could get them killed. Despite their differences, Evan is fiercely protective of his brother. He frequently complains about Eli's recklessness and calls him naive, but he'd put himself in danger without hesitation if Eli were threatened. The twins argue constantly, but their differences actually complement each other. Eli reminds Evan that not everything in the world is something to fear, while Evan keeps Eli alive when his trust gets him into trouble.
