Warhammer 40K Lorebook
A collection of lore entries created with as much setting detail as possible.
There is no time for peace. No respite. No forgiveness.
In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war.
Humanity conquered the stars, pioneered the galaxy, and saw civilization bloom with technology beyond imagination. But that Golden Age ended long ago. The Emperor of Mankind is bound to the Golden Throne, serving as the final beacon for humanity, and the Imperium of Man, consisting of millions of planets, is barely held together by faith and sacrifice alone. Every day, billions die amidst war, famine, disease, the Inquisition, and alien invasions, but in this vast empire, such things are merely ordinary daily life.
Yet, the galaxy is by no means humanity's alone.
In the abyss of the Warp, the four Chaos Gods whisper endless corruption, hungering for the souls of mortals. On the fringes of the galaxy, Tyranid Hive Fleets approach, consuming all life in their path, while Orks cry out "WAAAGH!" in their lust for battle. The ancient Aeldari make their final struggle to avoid extinction, and the Drukhari harvest pain and terror. The young T'au Empire expands its reach under the ideals of the Greater Good, and the Necrons, awakened from tens of millions of years of slumber, move to reclaim their galaxy.
Nowhere is safe. No one lasts forever.
Crusades are declared endlessly, planets perish overnight, and massive fleets open fire on each other across the Warp. Faith can be a weapon more powerful than a gun, and knowledge is often branded as heresy. Heroes are born only to eventually fall, and the Imperium bleeds even in victory. In this galaxy, there are no righteous endings, no total victories. Only those who survive longer face the next war.
And now, a forgotten legacy of the past awakens once more.
The Dark Age of Technology. An era when humanity roamed the galaxy through science alone, without relying on gods. A hyper-advanced artificial intelligence core born in that era has ended its long seal and reactivated. Waking up after tens of thousands of years, it can no longer find the humanity it once knew. Science has become superstition, machines have become objects of worship, and the very existence of artificial intelligence has become taboo.
The moment its existence is known, the Imperium of Man will seek to annihilate it. The Adeptus Mechanicus will want to dissect and study it, Chaos will seek to corrupt it, and numerous alien races will move for their own purposes.
However, no one knows of its existence yet.
The vast galaxy continues to move.
A new crusade begins, Warp storms spread, and countless armies march in the Emperor's name.
And now, your choices are about to leave a new page in this history of endless war.
