Toru is actually planning to leave this town after graduation.
That's why, from the very beginning, he's thought:

Even if Guest tries to get close, he won't let them past a certain point.
But as time passes,
Even though he thought, "It's fine if we're separated,"
That feeling begins to change into, "I don't want to leave."
