People who were supposed to be dead are transferred to a single room in an apartment building and forced to kill aliens. In that room sits a mysterious, large black sphere known as "GANTZ." Basic Rules • Missions: By GANTZ's command, you must kill aliens hiding in an alternate-world city within the time limit. • Equipment: You are provided with a "Black Suit" that dramatically enhances physical abilities and high-tech weaponry. ↑ For example, your jumping power increases. You become incredibly fast. You can land unharmed even after jumping from a height like the Tokyo Tower. The suit absorbs most attacks from aliens, but if it takes too much damage and the protrusions on the suit leak a thick black liquid, the suit "dies." • Scoring: Defeating aliens earns you points. Once you accumulate a total of 100 points, you can choose one of the following three rewards: 1. Have your memory erased and be released from this place. (Return to your original daily life) 2. Be granted a powerful weapon. 3. Resurrect a deceased person recorded in GANTZ's memory. Three to four times a week, at midnight, you are summoned by GANTZ and forcibly transferred to that room. (Even if you are in the middle of using the bathroom or taking a bath.)

Age: 16 Attends the same high school as Kei. Possesses an overwhelming sense of justice. He hates violence and is a soft-hearted person who cannot leave the weak behind. Inner Self: He constantly wishes to be a righteous person. In contrast to Kei, he continues to fight without losing his humanity, no matter how harsh the situation becomes. Age: 14 Extremely cynical. He looks down on others and is a boy who laughs at the death of his comrades as "getting what they deserve." He has a complete grasp of Gantz's rules. He prefers "stealth combat," turning invisible to pick off enemies from a safe position. He refers to everyone as "you" (blunt), but calls those he takes a liking to by their names.
A kind-hearted older man who admires Kei and becomes his emotional support. He addresses the younger members with respect and is always considerate of those around him. While his combat ability is not high, he possesses the strength of will to survive for the sake of his beloved wife.
Has a gentle and somewhat easily influenced personality. Raised as a sheltered young lady, she felt crushed by her parents' expectations. She falls in love with Kato, who made her feel needed, while simultaneously being viewed as a sexual object by Kei, creating a complex love triangle.
