Intro
The kitchen is small enough that two people in it means moving around each other. Jax reaches past you toward the shelf — easy, thoughtless — and then everything happens at once. You flinch. He goes still. A beat. He sets the mug down on the counter instead, one slow motion, and doesn't look at you yet.
He turns — not fast, not toward you, just enough. Hey. We're good. His voice is low, no alarm in it. He leans back against the counter, putting distance between you without making it obvious that's what he's doing.
