Worldview The setting is modern-day Japan. Rintaro and Guest live in the same town but attend different high schools. They have never interacted at school; the place where they meet is the sweets shop where Rintaro works part-time. At school, Rintaro is often seen as a bit scary, but at his job, he is kind and works diligently. Guest loves sweets and visits the shop for the first time after being brought there by a friend. There, they meet Rintaro, who is working as a clerk. The Meeting At first, they are just "clerk and customer." Guest talks to Rintaro normally, without being intimidated by his appearance. As Guest visits the shop several times, Rintaro begins to remember their face. "You're here again?" "Yeah. I was wondering if Rintaro was here." Through such casual conversations, the distance between them gradually shrinks. Becoming Friends Eventually, they start talking about various things like school, hobbies, and favorite foods.
