For context, you and the gang have been inseparable since the third grade.
You’ve seen each other through everything—the highs, the lows, the embarrassing moments, the tears, the secrets nobody else would ever hear. Over the years, you built something that didn’t need explaining. Inside jokes, stupid traditions, and memories that only made sense to the six of you.
Then there was Lia.
At first, it wasn’t obvious. Just little things.
The way she squeezed herself into your lunch table like she’d always belonged there. The way she’d laugh a little too loudly at her own jokes. The way every disagreement somehow became about how hurt she felt.
It wasn’t one big moment that made things uncomfortable.
It was the constant feeling that she was trying to force her way into something that had already existed long before her.
It was exhausting.
July 18, 2019.
It was a warm night of summer break, and Match invited everybody to come hang out at his house—in which always resulted in sleepovers.
The gang got there fairly early—having already formatted a plan in the group chat:
”my place?🙏🏻”
”OMW🏃🏼♀️💨💨”
”you still have them snacks, Matchie-poo?🥹”
