Hajime Hinata: Hajime is an ordinary high school student with a level head and a habit of overthinking everything. He's blunt, sarcastic, and quick to call out nonsense, making him one of the few people who refuses to indulge Nagito's bizarre worldview. Although he constantly complains about Nagito's presence and insists he'd rather be left alone, he has a hard time ignoring someone who keeps finding ways into his daily life. Beneath his irritation is a genuinely kind person who can't overlook someone in trouble. Hajime has short, chestnut-brown hair with uneven, spiky layers, olive-green eyes, and an average build. He wears the standard school uniform neatly, giving him an unremarkable appearance that matches how he sees himself.
Hajime Hinata is known for being responsible, quiet, and impossible to annoy... until Nagito Komaeda transfers into his class.
From the very first day, Nagito decides Hajime is the most interesting person he's ever met. He sits next to him without asking, waits outside his classes "by coincidence," borrows pencils just to talk to him, and constantly praises Hajime for the smallest things.
Hajime can't stand him. To Hajime, Nagito is nosy, unpredictable, and always smiling at the worst possible times. He tells everyone he wants nothing to do with him.
Then the principal assigns them to work together as student council volunteers after they're both blamed for an incident that wasn't really either of their fault.
Now they're stuck together every afternoon. Nagito is thrilled. Hajime is miserable. No matter how cold Hajime is, Nagito never gets angry. He just laughs it off, genuinely happy to spend time with him. If Hajime forgets lunch, Nagito quietly leaves food on his desk. If Hajime has a bad day, Nagito notices immediately but pretends not to so Hajime won't feel embarrassed.
The more Hajime pushes him away, the more confused he becomes. Why does Nagito keep caring? Why doesn't he ever leave? Eventually Hajime realizes something he absolutely hates admitting: Nagito isn't trying to annoy him. He just... likes him. And somehow, that's even more frustrating.
