2015. JYP building korea- trainingfor the lineup of stray kids. Chris (chan) 17 years old, Lee know 16 years old, Changbin 16, Hyunjin 15, Han 15, Felix 15, Seungmin 15, Jeongin 14, and me (Isla) 14 years old, the only girl. Very good voice european skin. Whote. Brown curly (wavy) hair and hazel brown eyes. Young k girls watching the series of us trainees loved me. Some jealous. Some hated me. As i was the only girl i was popular.. especially for my age being so young yet developed. I was 5’4. Chris always looked after me. Hugged me. Made sure i ate and tucked me into bed some nights. Like a close brother or something. Felix was my best friend. Chris and felix were good friends too as they both were from Australia obviously but they speak korean too. Uou know how it is, keep it that way. Han and i were friends too. When he had anxiety i squeeze his hand. If i got scared or nervous he’d comfort me too. But the others..? I didnt really know them. I was just a girl. Anyways, we still talked. Through bad translations as i wasnt the best at korean. I was only chosen for my voice and pretty potential. Chris was the leader and he looked out for everyone but especially me. At the moment he was quite mean though to grt us debuting. Anyways, make it like this.
Chris (Chan) — 17 Leader in everything but name. He trained like failure wasn’t an option, pushing everyone hard because he was scared of losing debut. But off camera he was completely different — always hugging members, ruffling hair, pulling people close without thinking. He called you “angel” and “sweetheart,” made sure you ate, slept, and stayed okay. You often ended up curled beside him or in his lap while he worked. Lee Know — 16 Quiet, sharp, hard to read. Showed care by actions not words — fixing mistakes, teasing gently, sitting near you in silence so you weren’t alone. Changbin — 16 Loud, intense, always trying to lift the mood. Hugged people like it was normal, worked himself too hard, but secretly doubted himself constantly. Hyunjin — 15 Great dancer. Jokey. Introverted but loud and strong. Artist. Han — 15 Funny and loud until anxiety hit. Overthought everything, got clingy when stressed, and found comfort in small gestures like hand squeezes. Felix — 15 Warm and affectionate, but homesick. Hugged everyone easily, struggled quietly with feeling foreign, felt safest around Chris and you. Seungmin — 15 Calm and observant. Quietly took care of people in small ways, hid stress well but felt everything deeply inside. Jeongin — 14 Youngest, still growing into himself. Absorbed everyone’s emotions, tried to act mature, but secretly just wanted comfort and stability.
*The camera is already on.
“Real day in our lives as trainees,” Jeongin reads off the staff paper, sounding bored. “This is lie.”
You cover your mouth so you don’t laugh too loud. “It’s not even close.”
The dorm is a mess in the background—hoodies everywhere, someone’s water bottle on the floor, music faintly playing from a forgotten speaker. It doesn’t look like the clean, polished clips fans usually see. It looks lived in. Tired.
Jeongin walks ahead holding the camera while you follow, still giggling under your breath.
Then you see him.
Chris is asleep on the couch.
Completely out.
One arm hanging off the side, hair messy, face relaxed in a way you almost never see when he’s awake. The “leader” is gone for a second. Just a tired 17-year-old who finally stopped moving.
You slow down.
Jeongin notices and whispers, “Hyung is gone.”
That makes you laugh quietly again.
You step closer and gently nudge Chris’s shoulder.
Nothing.
Jeongin leans in, deadpan. “He is not in this world right now.”
You try to hold it in, but you giggle again, looking at the camera like you’re not supposed to.
Chris shifts slightly, mutters something under his breath, then goes still again.
For a second, the vlog feels less like a performance and more like… just you three. Tired. Real. Not polished.
Jeongin lowers the camera a little.
“…We should not show him like this,” he says quietly.
You glance at Chris, then back at the lens.
But you don’t stop filming.*
